Meet Jacqueline Verity

What inspired you to start your business?

I was in the corporate world for many years, and I would often question myself (for many years!), what is my purpose in life?  For over 30 years I have been into health and wellbeing, starting with the discovery of Yoga at age 19, which started my love of yoga

It was in 2019, sitting at my desk one day, I said that’s it!  I’m going to be 51 soon – I need to follow my heart and not the pay cheque! I left on the Friday and started a Bowen Therapy course on the Saturday (having received Bowen therapy)

Whilst in my last corporate job, in 2014 I went through a prolonged bout of depression, and fully immersed myself in yoga classes, going to as many (as I comfortably could!). Yoga saved me. The huge benefits I experienced, have lasted with me to this day. This is why yoga inspired me to be a yoga teacher and share the benefits with others.  I’m also trained as a Yoga for Cancer Teacher

In 2016 I completed a Yoga Foundation Course, and in 2017 I did my Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training, followed by Yoga for Cancer course.  It was also in 2017, I experienced my first sound bath, which left a profound effect on me.  I started researching about this fascinating and ancient therapy, whilst attending more and more sound baths, or as I prefer to call them sound meditation journeys.  Having personally received numerous benefits; relaxation, mental health, clarity, sleep quality, physical benefits, enhanced spirituality, I knew I wanted to offer this modality to others, where they don’t have to ‘do anything’, just show up and have an open heart to receive.

I am also a qualified Nutritional Therapist, Personal Trainer, Massage Therapist and trained in Bowen Therapy.

What makes your business unique compared to others in your industry?

Being authentic – I believe people buy into each other.  Combining Yoga and Sound meditation journeys together.  Whilst I may have planned what I am going to teach/hold class/session, I read and feel the room, and may change/tweak accordingly for the group/individual.

How does your business contribute to wellbeing, sustainability, or healthy living?

Combining yoga and sound therapy, it helps to balance the body, mentally and spiritually on many different and deep levels.

What’s the story behind your business name?

I wanted to keep it simple – my name Jacqueline, and Verity in honour of my late mum.  My mum wanted to call me Verity, but my dad won!  Also, Verity means ‘truth’, so for me it made sense from not just honouring my mum, but from business aspect as well

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I have 16 cats (mostly rescues)!

What’s the best feedback you’ve ever received from a customer?

From a sound bath – “it was like being at a symphonic concert”, “very talented”, “my pain has gone from my fingers”, “I can’t remember the last time I slept so well”

From a yoga session – “I’m breathing so much better now, I can walk up the stairs without getting out of breath”, “I’m feeling stronger mentally and physically”, “I felt light and rejuvenated”

How would you describe the experience someone gets when they interact with your business?

Friendly and approachable, no heirs or graces. Creating a space where everyone feels welcome, safe and respected with professionalism.
(A little side note from Little Paper Towns, we had the pleasure of a sound bath session and left feeling very relaxed, calm and stress free!)

What steps do you take to ensure your business is sustainable/ethical?

My business cards are sustainable from recycled wood, I know where and how my instruments are made and processed.  My tuning forks for instance, are made from stainless steel as opposed to aluminium. Researching before purchasing equipment/instruments what they are made from and ethically sourcing wherever possible

If you could talk to your younger self, what would say?

Stop procrastinating, there is no such thing as perfection. Stop overthinking everything, be in the now. Focus on achieving your goals. You are worthy and deserve a fulfilling life.

Would you like to include a special offer or discount for our Little Paper Towners to use?

I would like to offer an introductory 20% discount, to use this please visit my Member page and contact me.

Did you have a personal experience that shaped your passion for wellness?

When I was a young child, up until the beginning of secondary school, I was bullied (at school) for being overweight which really affected me and my mental health. I put myself on a diet at the age of 10 and started exercising, cycling and Hula hooping. It was in my teens, when I started looking at how different foods affected me, and how exercising made feel better and happier about myself.

What’s one wellness ritual or practice you personally swear by?

Moving my body - whether it be Yoga, Thai Chi, dancing, aerobics or walking.

What makes your approach unique compared to others in the wellness industry?

Having had bouts of depression from a young age and how yoga really helped me over 30 years, and then a health diagnosis which lead me to train as a Yoga for Cancer teacher; I can relate and understand challenges people are going through.  Sound healing has really helped me on a lot of levels and knowing how different frequencies can affect us and can rearrange our cells and together with yoga has been a package that I can pass on to others to experience. Just being myself not pretence.

Thanks for talking with us Jacqueline, looking forward to your next post to delve behind the scenes a little more.
