Sitges ReciclArt Festival
Where Art Meets Environmental Action
Sitges ReciclArt is a vibrant celebration of sustainability and creativity, where art steps up to spark meaningful change. Hosted by Drap-Art and the Sitges Town Hall, with support from the Barcelona Provincial Council, this inspiring event puts a spotlight on artists who explore themes like ecology and climate change through their work.
It’s more than just an art show—it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and reimagine the world around us. What if waste wasn’t waste, but raw material for something beautiful and thought-provoking? What if creativity could shift our habits toward a more mindful, sustainable way of living?
ReciclArt encourages us to do just that—consume more consciously, think more deeply, and see discarded objects in a whole new light. Through installations, exhibitions, and workshops, the event opens up a space for community connection and artistic innovation, proving that small actions (and little paper towns) can lead to big change.
Visit the ReciclArt Sitges website for more information.

VIII The Return Of The Indians
Tracing the Indianos A Walk Through Ribes’ Colonial Past
At the turn of the 20th century, many locals from Ribes set sail for faraway lands, chasing new opportunities in the colonies. Some returned—wealthier, worldly, and with a vision that would leave a lasting mark on their hometown. These Indianos, as they were known, brought back more than fortune—they sparked a wave of elegant urban growth, commissioning beautiful buildings that still give Ribes its character today.
One of the best ways to explore this legacy is to wander down Carrer Major, where the so-called “Americans’ route” begins. Here, you’ll find small stately homes that hint at the wealth and architectural tastes brought home from abroad.
Just around the corner, Redós de Sant Josep i Sant Pere stands out—don’t miss its peaceful cloister, striking chapel, tower and inner courtyard. A little further on, Plaça de la Font draws your eye with its colourful mosaic fountain, a tribute to the arrival of piped water in the town.
Plaça de la Vila is another must-see. Look out for Can Quima and the current Town Hall, complete with a clock funded by generous overseas donations. Every corner has a story.
Follow Carrer del Pi, named after the grand old pine tree that’s still standing today. Along this street, you’ll spot some of the finest examples of Indian-style façades—like Can Mauri, Can Milà de Palou, and Can Giralt.
Nearby, the Palou neighbourhood offers a rare treat: the chance to stay in a traditional Indian house, lovingly known as Can Quadres. At the heart of Ribes, Plaça Marcer (also called Plaça dels Arbres) features ecclesiastical buildings with subtle colonial charm. And just next door, Plaça de l’Església is home to the majestic parish church of Sant Pere. Known locally as the Església Nova, its twin towers—funded by returning Indianos—rise proudly over the town.
It’s a beautiful route, full of details that connect past and present, and a reminder of how far people once travelled to shape the place we now call home.
