Behind the Scenes with NewLisaLife

What’s a day in the life of your business?

Each day can be something different. From up and out and leading Qigong under the trees or on the beach to network and planning meetings. Or it could be head down on the computer dealing with administration kind of day. Welcoming clients into my home healing space for Access Bars sessions or 1-to-1 coaching (which I also sometimes do online). Or it can be a wonk team meeting, creating décor for forthcoming parties and we turn the space into an arts and craft studio. I could be reading, writing, posting on social media. Creating posters, content and or researching developments in any one of the modalities in which I work. Every day is different and I’m pretty much responsible for doing all of the things that keep the business moving forward.

Can you share a memorable moment or challenge you’ve overcome in your journey?

Wow. There have been a few. I would say, without doubt, the 24 hour notice of cancellation by the Council of the 2nd Equilibrium Fest in 2022 was by far the most challenging experience to date. That came with months of anguish, financial loss and painful lessons.

Both memorable and challenging to say the least. The Equilibrium story however, continues and the best is yet to come.

What steps do you take to ensure your business is sustainable/ethical?

I keep going and I make good choices as I go, all being well. If it’s not ethical, I don’t do it. I continue to show up and I remain flexible and committed to being in flow. These are things that I have learned to be the most important aspects of a sustainable, ethical business.

What do you love and hate about the digital world?

I love that I can connect with people in other countries at the touch of a button. I dislike the click bait, advertising, scammers and addictive nature of social media and the impact it has on mental health. It is essential to monitor and moderate that. Just like everything else, It’s all about Balance! I do my best not to ‘hate’ anything.

What has been the hardest part of running your business in a foreign town?

Definitely language and things getting lost in translation. I speak an intermediate level of Spanish but not Catalan and not fluent, so there have definately been issues of misunderstanding. The autonomo and company tax and social security rates can be excruciating as they are not based on earnings and they take the same amount whether you have earned it or not. Coming to the realisation, after 3 years that the Ajuntament cannot legally support ‘alternative therapies’ of any kind. I was told that by Vilanova council. I wish someone had said that at the beginning of Equilibrium because it would have helped me to understand clearly the lack of support and saved me so much time and energy. Maybe someone did say it and because of the language, I didn’t hear it correctly. Also, the lack of support for foreigners in general in understanding and navigating the excessive bureaucracy. Simply getting appointments to do certain necessary paperwork is like prospecting for gold.

If you could talk to your younger self, what would say?

Love yourself.

If you had a bucket list for Sitges what would be your top 5 things to do?

Join a Zenergize class barefoot on the beach & walk the Sitges paseo from Fragata to Terramar

Eat at Pad Thai – Get a cocktail at Parrots

Get an Access Bars session

Visit Port de Aiguadolç

Find a night with DJ Danny Mekanik and go out dancing.

What is the thing you love the most about Sitges?

The general beauty and buzz of Sitges is quite unique. I love the feeling when I come out of the train station and feel like I’ve landed home. I also love crossing over the train lines into Poble Sec, away from the buzz and feeling like I’m part of a Catalan community.

Would you like to include a special offer or discount for our Little Paper Towners to use?

For customers who contact me with a the code LPT25thrive I can offer a 10% discount on any and all of my own personal services. This does not include collective events as these are often collaborative.

What’s next for your business Lisa?

Collaborating is a huge buzz for me. I’m excited to be partnering with Katie here at Little Paper Towns to build and grow a sustainable wellness community with In The Loop. There will be some really interesting opportunities for professionals to demonstrate their work, connect and support each other in and around the area.

I am also super excited to be working on a forthcoming series of Writers Workshops. It is part of me that I am beginning to nurture and explore more again. I will be leading meditation sessions to support the creative process. Absolutely perfect for me. I will also be refining the first draft of my first completed book, ‘It’s All Made Up – A guide to Spirituality from a Working Class Girl’. I’m focused on developing these into International retreats with American Author Will Bashor and to finish my book and get it published.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting a similar business, what would it be?

Follow your heart. Listen to your inner guidance and be true to yourself.

Thanks for talking with us Lisa, and look forward to all the exciting things we have coming up!
