Meet CatVana Learning Centre
Hi CatVana, welcome aboard and thanks for talking to us today.
What inspired you to start your inclusive education centre in Sant Pere de Ribes?
Just over 5 years ago we began our mission to bring quality education to all. After noticing many children without access to an education that suited their individual needs, we created a space where we could fulfil those needs.
What makes CatVana Learning Centre unique?
We are the only educational centre in the Garraf area to offer tutoring and teaching for children with special educational needs - including autism, adhd, dyslexia and dyscalculia - language needs and maths, amongst other offerings.
We also work alongside schools in the community to ensure the curriculum needs are being met by the students who come to us.
Finally, we also offer educational consultancy to families moving to/from the area, with continued academic support for their children. We serve families in Sitges and the surrounding Garraf areas, offering easy access to our centre in Ribes.
How does your business contribute to wellbeing?
We put the whole child at the centre of all that we do, and that includes their social and emotional care.
What’s the story behind your business name?
Ivana and I met when we were teaching at the same school together. We had two different classes and noticed that each had strengths the other class could learn from. So we literally smashed the wall down between the classes and combined them for a fantastic year of team teaching. During this time, the students kept calling us each other's' names until eventually we became known as the one and only CatVana. (Ahhh we love that story!)
Tell us a little about yourself Cat
Initially I completed a degree in law and went on to retrain a few years later as a teacher. When my children were at the beginning of their Primary school years, we relocated to Barcelona, Spain and haven’t looked back! I am now running this social business to bring a quality education to all.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I have a degree in Law and am currently studying an Executive MBA, but teaching is my true love.
What values are most important to you in running your business?
Integrity, generosity, cooperation, learning and courage.
Do you have a personal favourite product/service that you offer?
I love it all, but I really enjoy teaching Maths to students and learning how they approach problems and think about things.
Why should local families consider CatVana Learning Centre?
We strive to help in each and every way, even if that means directing families to another service through our Educational Consultancy programme.
We teach all ages, subjects, curriculums and abilities.
We offer in-school support for both the families and schools.
We have specialist qualified teachers delivering the different subject areas.
What’s the best feedback you’ve ever received from a customer?
“Wow! Thank you.”
“I don’t know what we would have done without you.””
“Thank goodness we found you.”
“You offer exactly what we need.”
How would you describe the experience at your school?
Safe, open, collaborative
And now for a bit of fun…
Describe your dream day off.
Hiking with my dog, eating great food with friends and family and a night of live music and dancing.
If your business were a song, what would it be and why?
Depends on the day. Hahaha. Right now I would have to say ‘I’m Still Standing’ by Elton John.
What local spots do you love when you need to recharge or get inspired?
Hiking in the forests and vineyards.
What’s a small, random thing that instantly makes your day better?
Smiling and a hello, or rather an adéu, from a local who knows me simply because we pass each other regularly.
Which book, movie or TV show totally changed your mindset?
Diary of a CEO podcasts are pretty good to learn from. I can find something in most things that I read or watch to learn from in all honesty.
What’s your secret talent or party trick?
I can make a noise like a dolphin.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us Cat, we look forward to getting to know more behind the scenes next month.
